Joyful Resilience
Reclaiming Your Soul in Scary Times
TL;DR: We’re living through intense times, and I want to share how reclaiming our bodies and joy is an act of rebellion. I’m walking women through a path of Decolonize, Embody, Alchemize, Eroticize. If this speaks to you, I have two ways we can work together: one-on-one coaching or a VIP retreat in Yucatán with the cenotes and the sea as our witnesses. Book a call for details here
As I am writing this the overwhelming news of ICE taking the life of a kind man is all over my feed. My friends are overwhelmed by dispair, so I am adding a small present, a little meditation I recorded to reclaim hope in times of distress.

We live in scary times, though honestly, what times in human history have not been scary? It’s all about location. Somewhere, somehow, something terrible has always been happening, usually to those most vulnerable, most unprotected, furthest from power. I say this to highlight how important it is to notice those who have been suffering, silenced by the indifference of a culture that expects some people to go down quietly.
As a Mexican woman, seeing small children, like five-year-old Liam, being dragged away by ICE feels personal. It is hard to witness the level of hatred, cruelty, and disdain toward Latin Americans that we are seeing today, while also living with the constant threat of U.S. intervention in my country. American warplanes have been flying over my small town this month. But let me tell you, we will overcome. We are the children of corn, the children of Mother Coatlicue, of Quetzalcóatl. The blood of our abuelitos runs through our veins.
Something oppressed peoples have learned throughout history, something we all need to remember now, is the power of joyful resilience. Of living fully, never paralyzed by fear, never surrendering to despair. Singing, humming, dancing, sharing stories around the fire, this is how we have endured, and how we leave a roadmap for those who will fight for freedom after us. We have overcome disaster after disaster, and we will continue to overcome.
The beauty of the human soul is our capacity to go on, to find a way, because life always finds a way.
When a Mexican woman, granddaughter of Lebanese immigrants, tells you that resisting with joy is a revolutionary act, listen. I am not speaking from empty statements, I am speaking from the resilience that has helped us hold ourselves together even when the world was falling apart around us.
Women Who Run With The Wolves
We are discussing book that meant my survival when I thought I was lost: Women Who Run With The Wolves by Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés. I have been blessed with the opportunity of talking with her (emailing), and I know she’s a woman who walks the talk. She has been there for those who suffer. She doesn’t just post about it, she goes and holds hearts live, lifting people up when they are most desperate, especially those who are usually forgotten, who are usually left to suffer alone.
The story I want to share with you today includes some quotes from her chapter on “Bluebeard,” the predator of the psyche.
This story speaks of the woman who has been trapped in a system that threatens her life while promising comfort and luxury, in exchange for ignoring what her soul knows to be true: that there is imminent risk, that this promise of comfort is a deal with the devil. That she is not safe, she is only being complicit in her own extinction.
“As long as a woman is forced to believe she is helpless and/or is trained not to consciously perceive what she knows to be true, the gifts and impulses of her psyche will continue to be exterminated.”
But we have the key to escape that trap. The key is curiosity, intuition, that internal wisdom that screams what our oppressor asks us to ignore. The key is the question, the right question, the question that makes us examine what lies behind the invisible.
When we use the key to open the closet where we’ve been storing “the skeletons,” we see lost dreams, versions of ourselves that never were, that we let die for the sake of an empty promise.
“Paradoxically, while her old life is dying, the woman awakens to her own hemorrhaging, and thanks to this, she begins to live.”
What follows is planning the escape, fleeing from the predator (internal and external). Seeking our freedom. This is a reclamation of our life force, of our soul.
The Path: Four Pillars
This reclamation can take many forms. For me, it has been through the reclamation of my body, my sexuality, my dreams.
Decolonize. Embody. Alchemize. Eroticize.
Decolonize as liberation from the oppressor, as recognition of the jail, internal and external, that has been imposed over us.
Embody as a reclamation of the wisdom of our bodies, who know the way, always knew the way. They knew when they were unsafe. They held back with tension, perceiving more information than our brains could process.
Alchemize, the power of taking the pain, the suffering, and turning it into gold, into fuel for our souls, into a deeper layer of wisdom.
Eroticize, the restoration of pleasure, of joy, through the body, with awareness, with consciousness.
This is the path I have developed, my method, how I guide women from the jail of the inner predator into a sense of compassionate embodiment.
